An iPhone app to help you pick your windows

I'll be honest, my smartphone is fast becoming my most used tool when it comes to remodeling projects. I use it to thumb through inspirational photos of some of my favorite design blogs, the INCHCalc+ helps save me from pulling out my hair when I need to convert inches to feet (or vice versa), and there are tons of apps that let me play with color combos without the mess of a thousand swatches. Lately, I've been having fun with a free app from Marvin Windows that lets me "window shop" in a fun new way.

Knot too shabby

When I was a kid my dad tried his best to impart his encyclopedic knot tying knowledge on to me, but aside from a handful of useful knots I never came close to mastering them all. Thankfully, the next time I need to tie a Sheepshank I won’t break a sweat. I haven’t been practicing; I just downloaded Knot Guide from Winkpass Creations. Knot Guide is a handy little iPhone app that’s loaded with over 70 different knots in a multitude of categories (climbing, hitching, decorative, binding etc.), complete with screen-to-screen instructions and description of each knot’s typical purpose. Knot Guide is on sale for $1.99 through the iTunes store, half off its usual price. What’s knot to love?
